A couple of months ago, on a random evening, I walked into Starbucks. They had a sign that said “What brings you Joy? Use a post-it note below!”
I think it was newly added because there was only a few on the wall. I hesitated to add one. But reading all the post-its on the wall, I decided to add one. I grabbed the sharpy and the post-its and started thinking. Took me a few seconds to start writing. Two words: “Small Gestures”. I added a smiley face and a small heart.
Small Gestures have the biggest meaning in the world. From checking on you when you have an exam, to try and cheer you up when you’re not feeling your best, to bringing you flowers for no reason at all, to sending you a message or a letter that reminds you of your worth and that you’re cared for.
Small Gestures, they’re small and yet have the biggest impact on us. I added the smiley face because that’s the effect of a small gesture could have on me. It could put a smile on my face and I could go speechless with no words to describe the joy I’d be feeling.
Small Gestures, they’re small and yet show a ginormous amount of love and care. So I added a little heart.
So many people, let it be friends or couples, think that in order to show their care and love they need something grand, extravagant, and expensive planned. Sometimes you really don’t. Yes those are lovely and can be meaningful and marvelous. However, Small Gestures tend to be personal. In order to get them right, you need to know the other person somewhat well. What makes them happy, what puts a smile on their face, what brings joy to their heart
Let’ normalize small gestures.
